- Recording Studio: Goodwin is co-owner of G.E.M. Recordings, a
state-of-the-art facility. His partner, John Epps, is the studio's manager and chief
engineer. Projects range from jingles, to film scores, to demos and albums by various
artists. Documentaries for which Goodwin has composed, arranged, performed, and produced
music include "When Rice Was King," "Circle of Inheritance,"
"Tidelands," "Brookgreen Gardens," a film about the SC State House,
and background tracks for "I Don't Live There Anymore" (a musical play by
Lawrence Holofcener set 50 years ago at what is now the Savannah River Nuclear Plant).
Goodwin has also done scores for films promoting various SC counties and cities
(Charleston and Columbia). The syndicated series "Nature Scene" continues to use
his original incidental music as well as his arrangement of the program's theme music.
Goodwin's skills are often sought after for special projects, such as the one that took
him to Stavanger, Norway in 1992 to produce an album for songwriter/singer/pianist Tim
Buie.
- Kerrville Folk Festival: Dick has been (for a decade or three) on
the faculty of the Kerrville Foundation's Songwriter's School, has served as staff bass
player with such acts as Peter Yarrow and Odetta, and has arranged most of the music for
the Festival Orchestra which is featured and serves as accompaniment for such artists as
Jimmy Lafave, Tish Hinojosa, Trout Fishing in America, and Melissa Javors. Two years ago
Goodwin was commissioned to write a piece based on "The Streets of Laredo" for
cello soloist, Doug Harman and string orchestra, conducted by David Amram. (See our
Composer page for availability of this work.)
- Clinician: Dick Goodwin is a Yamaha artist and has done many school
clinics and residencies and has conducted regional and all-state groups.
