- The Dick Goodwin Quintet: The Quintet has eleven music degrees and
years of university and public school teaching experience between them. The group has
often appeared with area orchestras and at other cultural events and festivals in the
Southeast. The Dick Goodwin Quintet began touring in Latin America for the US State
Department in the early 70's, has made a dozen trips abroad, and has given hundreds of
concerts in the US.
- The Dick Goodwin Big Band: has performed at major social events in
the Carolinas, Georgia, Florida, and Virginia (including SC Governor Riley's inaugural
celebration concert with Dizzy Gillespie) and has been featured in concert with area
orchestras. The players are Jim Hall (drums), Dwight Spencer (guitar), Terry Trentham
(bass), Doug Graham (clarinet and saxophones), Kevin Jones (saxophones and trombone),
Charlie Polk and Dave Allison (trumpets), Bruce Clark, Ashley Fleshman, and Ed Craft
(trombones), and John Wilkinson and Kristi Hood (vocalists). Dick and members of the band
have played with such notables as Marian McPartland, Ray Price, Bob Hope, Billy Eckstein,
Maurice Williams (Zodiacs), Marvin Stamm, Bill Watrous, Jack Benny, the Platters, Cab
Calloway, and Natalie Cole,. They also perform regularly with the SC Philharmonic, the USC
Conductors Institute Orchestra, and the Palmetto Brass. Almost all are (or have been)
music educators.
