- PIANO TRIO: A Swing Through Time (2001) a multi-movement work that
traces the history of jazz, commissioned by the Upton Trio. An additional movement was
added later to give the players some room to "stretch out" (improvise). 24 min.
- WOODWIND QUINTET:
- Boop Music, (2001) commissioned by the Carolina Chamber
Players. A four movement piece with musics inspired by the energetic tracks behind Betty
Boop cartoons.
- Camerata Quintet (1999) written for the USC faculty
woodwind quintet. It has been also been performed by the neoPhonia new music ensemble at
Georgia State University and the new music ensemble at the University of Miami.
- TWO CLARINETS/PIANO/STRING QUARTET: Girls and Boys (2000) (two
movements) commissioned by the Carolina Chamber Players and performed and recorded by them
April 2, 2000. The group included the Miro String Quartet! 20+ min.
- CLARINET & MARIMBA: Seven Deadly Sins (1985) written for
clarinetist Douglas Graham and James Hall, marimba. "Sins" has received numerous
performances across the country.
- CELLO & PIANO: Carolina Caper (1999) commissioned by the Chamber
Pots, premiered by Robert Jesselson, cello and Charles Fugo.
- PERCUSSION & PIANO : Stories from the Stones (1994) in two
movements commissioned by The Percussive Two and taken on tour in up-state NY. It is a
reasonable multiple percussion set up (not "the kitchen sink"...Glockenspiel is
the largest, heaviest item). The pianist doubles on some light percussion.
- A BOOK for TWO FLUTES/CLARINET/CELLO (or bassoon): 40+ titles
available--they include arrangements of typical wedding requests, Christmas tunes,
reception background music, plus a few originals.
- BRASS QUINTET: March from Die Zauberposaune, a perfect processional
(it has been used for years at graduations, etc. at the University of South Carolina and
elsewhere), plus a handful of other titles.
- GUITAR MUSIC (duets, etc.): An album of pieces written to be used as
background music for the widely syndicated television series Nature Scene. Most of the
selections were written as duets or trios and were overdubbed by one player (Jim Mings) in
the studio. The recording (cassette) is also available from SCETV. A number of the pieces
have been edited by composer/guitarist, Dr. Jim Dickson.
- OPERA/MUSICALS/THEATER/DANCE:
- Gabriel (1975) a chamber opera about the end of the
world -- 9 singers, a couple of prerecorded cameos by local celebrities, plus 10
instrumentalists) Libretto by W. John Williams. 45 min.
- The Christmas Fix a musical based on a German folk tale,
book by award winning playwright, John MacNicholas. Full cast, four person pit.
- The Wrestling Princess, based on a story by Judy Cobalis
with lyrics by E.W. Wells, commissioned by Smith College.
Goodwin has also composed themes, incidental music, and songs for many
theater, ballet, and industrial show productions.
